Joplin Relief Prints

These amazing prints are by Tobe of Because It’s Awesome and her friends.  I’m so inspired by the creativity and generosity of these girls.  All proceeds raised from the sale of the prints go to the Red Cross to benefit the town of Joplin.  You can read more about it, and purchase your own prints at Because It’s Awesome

And if you haven’t been reading Tobe’s blog already, you should!  Because it’s awesome.  Ha!

Monday Inspiration

From the pages of the latest Style at Home:

I love the white furniture with the black piping, and the Navy and orange color scheme is super fun for summer.

What a week…

MONDAY:
It was a day off in Canada.  I did this:

Yay!  After too many coats of magnetic primer to count (well, actually, I did count them… I’ll elaborate on that process in another post) I finally was able to paint on the chalk board.  Hello dramatic black wall!!!  Can’t wait to get to the cupboards now!
TUESDAY:
My boys FLOODED the kitchen so badly that it leaked through the basement ceiling, and soaked the basement carpet.  That’s not the worst part… it also damaged the hardwood floor in the kitchen.

It was one of my “Mom of the Year” moments.  I left the two of them happily doing dishes (yes, it’s a favourite activity at our house) and went upstairs to check email.  5 minutes later I was dashing down the stairs to the sound of buckets (well, mixing bowls) full of water swooshing onto the floor, accompanied by shrieks of glee from the two boys.  The water was deep enough for them to slide around in a get completely drenched during the clean up process.  ANYWAYS… the only good thing to come of it was that it forced me to move my oven, and it desperately needed to be cleaned back there anyways.
WEDNESDAY:
Mini breakdown over the last Oprah episode.
Oprah Winfreyvia
I had a major ugly cry.  (I should have known I would be emotional over it based on how much I cried over the last episode of Golden Girls years ago.)  Anyways… I’ve watched Oprah for as long as I can remember, and I’m going to miss her.  Check out The Oprah Gratitude Project.  It’s cool.
THURSDAY
My birthday.  Had a great day.  Went out for lunch, had cupcakes at Mom & Dad’s house, and received two surprisingly dirty hilarious cards!  Good stuff.
FRIDAY
Well, that’s today.  So far so good…
Just got confirmation that our lien was fully discharged!  Hooray!
Plus, I just got this in the mail:

Happy weekend everyone!

Finally…

…look what is sticking to my wall and not sliding lamely all the way to the bottom!

Family Room Update and Some Random Stuff

1.  The walls are white!  The trim is white!  The railing is black!  Yay!  I ended up choosing Benjamin Moore’s Moonlight White OC-125, and I love it!  Here’s a sneek peek of the family room… before and not-quite-after:

Obviously, there is still quite a bit of work to be done in the decorating department, but can you believe how much bigger and brighter the room looks?
2.  The chalk-board wall in my kitchen is frustrating the crap out of me.  I thought it would be awesome to use the magnetic primer (so that I could get the kid-art off my fridge), and I saw Nate use it and it worked really well on his show.  But… I’m on my 9th coat, and it’s still not strong enough to hold up a photo.  Nards.  After reading the directions, I realized that I’m spreading it too thin… but I really want a smooth finish because of the chalk-board wall… so hopefully after another 8 coats, it’ll be good to go.  I’ll keep you posted.
3.  If any of you thought my ‘vagina-wall’ post this week was too much… then don’t read this post over at The Man Repeller.  But if you want to laugh out loud, then definitely go there.  I love that girl… funny funny stuff.

4.  I totally have a crush on Adam Levine thanks to the show “The Voice.”

5.  Lastly… I want to be cool enough to go to Blogfest in NY.  Just sayin.  Maybe next year.

Guest Post: It’s All in the Details

I’m excited to be guest posting today over at Roco Rennie

Rachael has been running an awesome series called “It’s All in the Details”, and I’m so flattered to be included in the group of bloggers contributing!  There have been some great posts, so if you haven’t been following, you better go catch up!  Hop over to see the five details in my home that put a smile on my face.

Fugly or Fabulous??? Bookmatched Stone

I decided to kick off the week with a ‘fugly or fabulous’ post for you to ponder.  The topic is bookmatched stone walls.  The first two examples are pretty tame, but just keep scrolling… hahahaha…

You can probably guess what I think this look resembles… bahahaha… but maybe some of you are much more mature than me.

So… what do you think?  Fugly or fabulous???

Inspiration File: Graphic Wall Pattern

I am completely taken with the mix of pattern in this living room.  It’s the home of Courtney and Scott Vincent decorated by Lisa Sherry, straight form the pages of the new Lonny.  That graphic wall pattern is hand painted, and I love love love it!

My Color Crush

Today I’m guest posting over at one of my favourite blogs, 10 Rooms

10 Rooms

Come on over to see what my all-time color crush is.

In the meantime… I’m still painting, and the white walls look amazing!  I’ll try to get some sneak peek pictures up in the next couple days!

Happy Mothers Day to Me…

I’ve mentioned how much I love painting.  So this weekend I’m treating myself… I’m painting my family room/kitchen area white!!!  Yay!  I’ve been craving white for about a year.  So goodbye boring beige.  Hello fabulous white!

I have to give a HUGE shout out to my blog buddy Anne-Marie from 10 Rooms.  She did an online color consultation for me, and helped me to FINALLY choose the right white for my space.  Trust me, this girl knows her color.  Check out this post she did on choosing white.  If anyone out there is driving themselves crazy trying to get the perfect color for your home (like I was)… just stop right now and email Anne-Marie because she’s awesome.

And now, on to some fabulous white rooms…

OK… these ones are a little more ‘glam’ than my current lifestyle can handle… but beautiful just the same!

Maybe something like this - equally fabulous, but a little more attainable:

Happy Weekend Everyone!  I’m off to paint!

Inspiration File: A Pop of Red

This is the home of John and Vivian Bencich of Square Feet Studio.  It was featured on Design*Sponge, and I fell in love with the white backdrop and pops of red… plus I’ve always wanted a grand piano in the living room… just sayin…

Pretty fabulous, right!  There is more at Design*Sponge

A Fabulous Before & After

I love a good ‘before and after’, and I think this one by Sarah of Prairie Perch is totally worth sharing:

Great transformation, right???  That yellow wallpaper is awesome and I love how Sarah styled up the modern white cabinet.
If you haven’t started reading Prairie Perch yet, you should!  Here are some more great ‘after’ shots… this time of Sarah’s bedroom:

The headboard and feather wreath are diy’s.  Go read Praire Perch for details!

Fugly or Fabulous???

I’ve been wanting to do some kind of a ‘Fugly or Fabulous’ feature on my blog for a long time, and just never kicked it off.  But this really seemed like the perfect opportunity…
