DIY: Metallic Initial Art

I always like family initials in gallery walls, so I knew I needed to have an H in ours... (and an E.... see yesterday's post for explanation.)  I'm completely enamored with gold right now, so I decided to gold leaf an H onto a canvas that I already had.

The trick to making it look right is to start out by painting the background of the H with dark brown.

Then when the gold leaf is applied on top, it enhances the imperfections in the gold leaf.

I dry-brushed a little more brown over the whole thing to rough it up a bit when I was done.

Voila! Super easy project, and exactly what we needed to finish off our gallery wall!
